    The ongoing phrase, “Ee Sala Cup Namde,” which means “this year the cup is ours,” and its associated mockery came to an end when RCB achieved their long-awaited goal of winning the WPL and became only the second team to do so in the competition’s history.

    The Women’s Premier League (WPL) Season 2 champion Royal Challengers Bangalore was congratulated on Sunday by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah. He also expressed his “heartfelt” gratitude to everyone who contributed to the season’s continued success.

    Shah hailed the tournament as a spectacular celebration of women’s cricket and acknowledged the overseas players for showcasing their brilliance, while also applauding Smriti Mandhana for leading the charge as she contributed with her bat and displayed “exceptional captaincy” in “steering RCB to a well-deserved title”. “Wow, what a magnificent celebration of cricket for women! Jay Shah wrote on X, the former Twitter platform, “This tournament has truly been a testament to the growing prowess of women’s cricket in India, from outstanding performances to electrifying crowd support.”

    Ellyse Perry displayed composure with an unbeaten 35, and spinners Shreyanka Patil, Sophie Molineux, and Asha Sobhana combined for nine wickets to help Royal Challengers Bangalore win the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 title with an eight-wicket win over Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium here on Sunday.

    With the ball, Shreyanka proved to be the hero, taking 4-12 to take the lead in wickets for the tournament. Meanwhile, Asha claimed 2 wickets and Sophie struck 3 strikes to ensure that DC was bowled out for 113 in 18.3 overs, having earlier been 64/0. Ellyse, the competition’s top run scorer, persevered through to the very end of the chase, finishing it in 19.3 overs.

    Smriti Mandhana and Sophie Devine took their time, scoring 25 runs in Power-play, including three boundaries between them off Marizanne Kapp, despite the chase being only 114. In the seventh over, Sophie swept off Radha Yadav twice before dancing down the field to hit the left-arm spinner for a six, giving RCB the momentum they had been waiting for in the 18-run over. However, she was trapped leg before wicket (LBW) after playing all around Shikha Pandey’s nip-backer at number 32 in the ninth over.

    Even though RCB’s runs dried up, Smriti and Ellyse managed the chase by being patient and keeping an eye out for an opportunity to raise the stakes. Ellyse gave them a chance when she pulled Arundhati Reddy for a boundary, and in the 13th over, Smriti perfectly timed a drive past the backward point for another four. Then, Ellyse lofted Jess Jonassen over mid-off for four, but Minnu Mani claimed Smriti after Minnu Mani was beaten in flight and holed out to mid-on. Before Richa Ghosh cut Minnu through point for four, Ellyse and she briefly switched places with their strikes.

    To move the RCB closer to victory, Ellyse first pulled Jess through mid-wicket for four, and then she swept Alice Capsey past fine leg for another boundary. When Richa lofted Arundhati over mid-off for four, she effectively sealed the deal for RCB and ignited wild celebrations throughout the Bengaluru city and camp as they won the WPL 2024 trophy.

    Virendra Sehwag, a former opener for India, commended the RCB team for their poise under pressure. “RCB deserves much congratulations for winning the WPL. Excellent temperament demonstrated in stressful situations and worthy winners. #WPLFinal,” Sehwag uttered.

    “We extend our sincere congratulations to the RCB Women’s Team on their WPL victory. If the long-overdue RCB Men’s Team were to win the IPL, it would be an incredible double. Good Luck,” Mallya wrote in a post on X, formerly Twitter.

    Thousands of fans of the team praised the players on social media as Kohli and Chahal, who spoke with RCB Women captain Smriti Mandhana via video call, referred to the team’s female players as “Superwomen“.

    The Kannada post that Chahal made on X said, “Ananda, Paramananda, Paramananda.” We are so proud of our RCB team.

    Lastly, Smriti Mandhana told to Jay Shah, “Thank you sir, big thanks to BCCI for their support and everyone involved in WPL Season 2!” on X, formerly Twitter.

    Worry About Your Children’s Eyes From Myopia? Encourage them to Play Outside

    If you’re struggling to get your kids off their devices and outside to play, here’s another reason to keep trying: Spending at least two hours outside per day is one of the most important things your children can do to protect their vision.

    “We think that outdoor time is the best form of prevention for nearsightedness,” says Dr. Noha Ekdawi, a pediatric ophthalmologist in Wheaton, Ill.

    And this is significant because the number of children with nearsightedness, or myopia, is rapidly increasing in the United States and many other parts of the world.

    In the United States, 42% of people are myopic, up from 25% in the 1970s. By the age of young adulthood, up to 90% of people in some East Asian countries are myopic.

    About 15 years ago, one or two of the children we saw had myopia. However, nowadays, “about 50% of my patients have myopia, which is an incredibly high number.”

    Myopia occurs when the eyeball stretches and grows too long, making distant objects appear blurry.

    When a child develops myopia, their eyeball continues to stretch, and the condition worsens over time. If they develop high myopia, they are more likely to develop serious eye problems later in life, including retinal detachments, glaucoma, and cataracts. It can even cause blindness.

    There are treatments available to help slow the progression of myopia, such as prescription atropine eye drops, special soft disposable contact lenses called MiSight, and hard contacts worn overnight known as orthokeratology (or ortho-K). The most effective approach is to prevent children from developing myopia in the first place.

    So, how does spending time outside help?

    That’s what Ian Morgan wanted to know. Morgan is a myopia researcher at Australia’s National University. He noticed a few decades ago that myopia rates in East Asia were significantly higher than in Sydney.

    He knew from animal studies that light causes the eye to release the neurotransmitter dopamine, which can slow the eyeball’s stretching. “Australians are famous for their outdoor-oriented lifestyle,” he believed. “Maybe there’s a link between getting outside a lot and preventing the development of myopia.”

    Morgan’s research piqued the interest of Dr. Pei-Chang Wu, an ophthalmologist in Taiwan. As a retina specialist at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Kaohsiung, he had seen the effects of high myopia in patients as young as 10 who had tears in their retina. Some even had retinal detachment, which can cause blindness if not treated promptly.

    Wu’s young son was in first grade at the time, and he was concerned about Taiwan’s alarmingly high rates of myopia. By the end of high school, approximately 90% of the teenagers have it. Wu claims that the academic culture in Taiwan’s primary schools did not allow for much outdoor recess. “Many teachers want students to practice their homework during recess,” according to him.

    But Wu persuaded his son’s elementary school to increase outdoor time. He also recruited a control school. One year later, his son’s school had half the number of new myopia cases as the other school. “We saw the results – they were very successful,” says Wu.

    He conducted additional research at more schools and eventually persuaded Taiwan’s Ministry of Education to encourage all primary schools to send students outside for at least two hours per day, every day. The program began in September 2010. After decades of rising rates, the prevalence of myopia among Taiwanese elementary school students began to fall, from an all-time high of 50% in 2011 to 45.1% in 2015. According to Ian Morgan, this is a significant achievement.

    Other studies have found that outdoor time can reduce the likelihood of children developing myopia, even if they do a lot of close work, such as reading or staring at screens, which has also increased dramatically in recent years. Even if a child’s parents have myopia, spending time outside can help.

    According to research, children should spend at least two hours per day outside, every day, in order to protect their vision. The younger you intervene, the better.

    “To me, it’s like: eat your vegetables. “You need to spend time outside,” Ekdawi says.
    It doesn’t matter whether it’s sunny or cloudy, or what the kids are doing. “You can go to the park, ride your bike, sit in a tree, or walk your dog. “All these things matter,” she says.

    If you’re concerned about leaving time for homework, Ekdawi recommends having kids do it outside. All that matters is that they are outside.

    5 Most Influential Female IAS Officers in India

    Many female IAS officers in India have passed the most difficult examination and become role models for aspiring female IAS officers. The Union Public Service Commission is always going above and beyond to get more and more women to take the UPSC examination. UPSC also waives the application fee for the Prelims and Mains exams in an effort to encourage female students.

    According to a report released by the Trivedi Centre for Political Data, women made up only 13% of the 11,569 IAS officers recruited between 1951 and 2020, or just one-third of all IAS recruits in the nation.

    The effect that family expectations have on women, including IAS officers, is one factor that is frequently overlooked. Several women officers have noted that they bear a double burden in juggling their roles as wives and mothers with their professional obligations. Their careers may suffer as a result of this added pressure. As a result, instead of choosing jobs that might demand a larger commitment and time commitment, many female officers prefer to look for “softer postings” that provide more flexibility and free time.

    Female IAS officers are not restricted by a specific standard dress code when it comes to attire. On official occasions, they must wear formal attire; on other business days or at other events, they may wear casual clothes.

    1. Anna Rajam Malhotra

    Anna Rajam Malhotra, who was a part of the 1951 batch, is the first female IAS officer in India. For her exceptional contributions, she was given the coveted Padma Bhushan award.She was particularly important in the establishment of Nhava Sheva, the first computerized port in India, which is situated in Mumbai.

    She also has the distinction of being the first Malayali woman to work in the central government as a secretary.Her significant and wide-ranging contributions have had a long-lasting effect on India’s administrative environment..

    She made a major contribution when she founded the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), which is situated close to Mumbai. As part of her deputation in the Central government, Anna Rajam Malhotra took on the role of chairperson during the project’s execution.

    Padma Bhushan bestowed an honor upon Anna.She is the first Malayali woman to hold a secretarial position in the central government and was instrumental in creating Nhava Sheva, Mumbai, the first computerized port in India. Working under seven chief ministers, Anna Rajam was intimately connected to both Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi during the Asiad Project.

    2. Preeti Sudan

    The accomplished female IAS officer Preeti Sudan, a 1983 batch member, was trained in the Andhra cadre. She held important positions at the state and federal levels during her career, including Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Defense and Secretary of the Department of Food and Public Distribution, where she oversaw duties in disaster management and tourism.

    Preeti Sudan held positions in the government as well as a consultant position at the World Bank. Notably, she was instrumental in assisting in the creation and execution of important programs such as the National Health Policy and the Ayushman Bharat Yojana, a government initiative that aims to give free secondary and tertiary health coverage to 40% of India’s most vulnerable citizens.

    The goal of these initiatives is to provide medical assistance to the nation’s underprivileged and destitute citizens. IAS officer Preeti Sudan, a woman, was trained in the Andhra cadre and belongs to the 1983 batch. She held a number of significant roles at the state and federal levels, including posts in disaster management and tourism as well as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Defense. Preeti also held the position of Secretary of the Department of Food and Public Distribution in the past.

    Initiating two significant national flagship programs, Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao, and Ayushman Bharat, in addition to legislation on the National Medical Commission, Allied Health Professionals Commission, and the ban on e-cigarettes, are among her noteworthy contributions.

    She was a consultant at the World Bank.Preeti Sudan backed the development and execution of the National Health Policy, or Ayushman Bharat Yojana, a government initiative that intends to give the bottom 40% of India’s impoverished and defenseless citizens free secondary and tertiary health coverage.

    3. Aruna Sundararajan

    Ms. Sundararajan is another high-ranking official in the Indian Administrative Service. She is a former female IAS officer from the Kerala Cadre’s 1982 batch. During her life, Aruna is credited with obtaining numerous significant roles, one of which is Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

    She had conceived and led the Akshaya project, which began in the rural district of Malappuram, Kerala, India, and later spread to the entire state, as the state’s first IT Secretary. The largest e-literacy initiative of its kind, Akshaya trained over a million people in fundamental digital skills through a campaign-style approach. Additionally, Akshaya sparked the emergence of one of the world’s biggest known rural wireless networks powered by Internet Protocol (IP).

    In her capacity as Chair of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), she oversaw the reshaping of policies pertaining to the telecom industry. Ms. Sundararajan’s contributions to the field of e-governance have had a major impact on India’s digital revolution.

    In 2009, India Today recognized Ms. Sundararajanan as one of the top professional women achievers; in August of 2012, Forbes Business Magazine did the same. Additionally, the US-India Business Council presented her with the 2017 USIBC Transformative Leadership Award in recognition of her outstanding public service and dedication to advancing U.S.-India cooperation and Digital India.

    4. Smita Sabharwal

    Smita Sabharwal is reportedly the youngest woman to be appointed as an IAS officer in India. She is also, remarkably, the most recent officer to be appointed to a post in the Chief Minister’s office. IAS officer Smita Sabharwal, a woman, was assigned to the Telangana cadre in the 2001 batch. She is referred to as The People’s Officer because she involves people in solving problems that affect citizens. She was appointed to the Chief Minister’s Office as the first female IAS Officer.

    The first female IAS officer to hold the office of chief minister was Smita Sabharwal. She currently serves as both the secretary of the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Department (Mission Bhagiratha Department) and the secretary to the Telangana Chief Minister.

    While serving as a municipal commissioner in Warangal, she launched the “Fund your City” program, which allowed for the creation of numerous public utilities through public-private partnerships (PPP), including traffic junctions, foot overbridges, bus stops, and parks. She later worked in Visakhapatnam as the Deputy Commissioner of Commercial Taxes.

    Shweta Agarwal is regarded as the most creative female IAS officer, with ideas that are wholly original. She was a West Bengali and a member of the 2016 batch. She was in favor of the implementation of various programs, including the Mukhya Mantri Jal Swavlamban Abhiyan and the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

    She attended the St. Joseph Convent School and finished her graduate studies in economics at Kolkata’s St. Xavier’s College. She received a first-class diploma. Even at her graduation, Sweta placed in the top 15 positions. She then pursued an MBA post-graduation and was able to secure a job with Deloitte in the corporate sector.

    Because of her diligence, the daughter of a grocery seller passed the UPSC Civil Services exam and went on to become an IAS officer. Ms. Agarwal wanted to give it another go even though she had passed the exam on her first attempt in 2014 with an AIR-497, which allowed her to join the Indian Revenue Service. After her second attempt in 2015, she was able to obtain her AIR-141, allowing her to realize her long-held dream of joining the IPS and dressing in khaki. Though content, her focus was on IAS. She made the decision to try again as a result. Shweta Agarwal scored 19th in the 2016 UPSC Civil Services Exam.

    She was instrumental in the successful implementation of the latter plan, which helped to preserve water in the State. Shweta Agarwal received recognition and commendation for her excellent work, as well as the Chief Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Service.

    Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 2024: Manisha Rani of Munger wins the trophy bringing in an additional Rs 30 lakh in wealth

    Social media personality and wildcard entry Manisha Rani emerged victorious from Season 11 of the popular dance reality series “Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa.”

    Manisha received a check for Rs 30 lakh in addition to returning home with the winner’s trophy, and her choreographer, Ashutosh Pawar, received a check for Rs 10 lakh. The two also won a trip to Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island.

    The ‘Murder Mubarak’ cast, consisting of Sara Ali Khan, Vijay Verma, and Sanjay Kapoor, joined the contestants on stage for a dance during the finale.

    Manisha Rani, Shoaib Ibrahim, Dhanashree Verma, Adrija Sinha, and Sreerama Chandra were the five finalists; however, only Manisha, Shoaib, and Adrija advanced to the top three.

    Manisha sang her final renditions of “Thumkeshwari,” “Do You Love Me,” “Param Sundari,” and “Saami Saami” in those songs.

    After a riveting rendition of “Zinda Banda” from the Shah Rukh Khan film “Jawan,” Shoaib performed “Badshah O Badshah,” which was based on SRK and Twinkle Khanna in the Abbas-Mustan film “Badshah” from 1999.

    Adrija’s dance acts, choreographed to songs like “Chammak Challo,” “Nadiyo Paar,” and “Move Your Body,” won her hearts as well, if not enough to rank first.

    Manisha, a Munger, Bihar native, characterized her experience as nothing less than a dream realized.

    “I owe it all to the love, support and encouragement of the judges and the audience,” she stated.

    “I had no doubt that this encounter would transform my life, and it has. I had to prove myself twice as hard as usual because I was a wildcard entry, but every moment has been exciting and has helped me grow as a dancer.”

    Manisha previously won the second runner-up prize on ‘Bigg Boss OTT 2’. She gained notoriety during the Covid lockdowns for her dance reels on TikTok and Instagram.

    Ashutosh, her choreographer, has been understanding and has pushed Manisha to explore new aspects of her dancing abilities every week. She expressed her gratitude to him for this. This victory belongs to everyone who encouraged and believed in me, not just me.”

    One of the three judges on the show, choreographer-turned-filmmaker Farah Khan, said of Manisha: “Her innate talent for dancing has really set the stage on fire. She has continuously challenged herself and performed a variety of dance styles with grace and accuracy.”

    “Manisha has swiftly carved a niche in everyone’s heart with her outstanding talent and mesmerising performances,” said fellow judge Arshad Warsi.

    She amazed us every week with her amazing versatility, and every performance showed her commitment to excellence as she skillfully and gracefully tackled a variety of dance genres.”

    The third judge, Malaika Arora, declared in closing, “Her performances were simply outstanding throughout the show.” She is undoubtedly my “Versatile Rani,” as she consistently wows us all with her performances.”

    Manisha enchanted everyone with her lively personality and gentle manner in addition to her dancing skills.

    Actor Shahid Kapoor was spellbound by her dance moves and wondered if he should learn from her. She also used the occasion to share some photo-ops advice with Juhi Chawla, who is always so elegant, and to dazzle Nora Fatehi with her belly dancing prowess.

    TATA WPL 2024: Half-centuries from Mandhana and Perry helped RCB defeat Warriorz

    In a Women’s Premier League (WPL) Season 2 match at the Chinnaswamy Stadium here on Monday, Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated UP WArriorz by a margin of 23 runs thanks to half-centuries from Ellyse Perry and skipper Smriti Mandhana, as well as a clinical performance from their bowlers.

    Batting first, Royal Challengers Bangalore amassed 198/3 in 20 overs thanks to blows of 80 off 50 balls from Mandhaha and 37 off 58 balls from Perry, who hit four boundaries and three sixes in as many balls.

Mandhana, who reached her half-century off 34 balls after being dropped by Athapaththu at age 29, also survived a stumping opportunity and hit Rajeshwari Gayakwad and Athapaththu for six each.

    In the fifteenth over, Mandhana hit the Sri Lankan all-rounder for three boundaries, two of which came back-to-back, as she carried on her assault. She threatened K Anjali Savani again in the next over, hitting him for three fours in an over and two fours off consecutive deliveries, the second of which found its way into the boundary off Sophie Ecclestone’s reach as the RCB captain led a lucky life. Together with Ellyse Perry, who began her innings with a four off Sarvani and hit back-to-back sixes off Gayakwad in the 18th over, she amassed 96 runs for the second wicket. In addition, she hit Deepti Sharma for a huge six before getting caught by Ecclestone with the opening ball of the last over.

    As they chased 199, UP Warriorz found early success thanks to 47 runs made by Alyssa Healy and Kiran Navgire for the first wicket. Nevertheless, UP collapsed to 89/4 at the halfway point as Chamari Athapaththu (8), Grace Harris (5), and Shweta Sehrawat (1) fell cheaply. And the Warriorz were 113/5 in the 13th over and in serious trouble after Healy was out for 55. Poonam Khemnar and Deepti Sharma continued the battle, but ultimately their efforts were in vain because the task was too difficult.

    Regarding RCB. Each of Asha Sobhana, Georgia Wareham, Sophie Molineux, and Sophie Devine claimed two wickets.

    The first robot operating system based on a web platform will arrive this week

    On Tuesday, the massive South Korean tech company Naver announced that it will present the world’s first robot operating system (OS) built on a web platform.

    Naver is participating in the “LEAP 2024” event this week in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, alongside other major international tech companies like Google, Apple, Meta Platforms, and AWS.

    According to its representatives, the Korean company will showcase “ARC mind powered by Whale OS,” the first web platform-based robot operating system, at the event. This will assist robotics developers globally in creating a variety of robot services.

    According to the Yonhap news agency, the ARC mind will enable the integration of current applications with robot services and feature a web application programming interface for the command, reasoning, and mobility of robots.

    Naver stated that it intends to initially equip its robots with the ARC mind, which is lighter and faster than the original robot operating systems, and then develop an open ecosystem.

    During the event, the company will also introduce a next-generation robot platform that it co-developed with Samsung Electronics.

    Together, the two companies have combined Samsung’s semiconductor solutions, such as system on a chip and image sensors, with Naver’s OS and software solutions to create a robotics edge computing platform.

    Indian Idol 14: Vaibhav Gupta of Kanpur wins the title of Indian Idol 14

    Vaibhav Gupta, star of “Kanpur ka Tarana,” has won the coveted trophy of the singing competition “Indian Idol 14.” The trophy was accompanied by a ‘Hot and Techy’ Brezza car and a cheque for Rs 25 lakh.

    Along with Shubhadeep Das Chowdhury, Ananya Pal, Adya Mishra, Piyush Panwar, and Anjana Padmanabhan, Vaibhav was one of the six finalists.

    After being named the first and second runners-up, Shubhadeep and Piyush received a trophy and a cheque for Rs 5 lakh each, and they returned home. Ananya won a trophy and Rs 3 lakh for placing third, along with other benefits.

    Sonu Nigam served as the special judge for the grand finale. Sonu Nigam previously judged the show’s second and ninth iterations. Neha Kakkar, who will appear in the final episode of the reality show “Superstar Singer” as the “super judge,” was also present.

    Vaibhav performed a rendition of “Jumma Chumma” for the “Pyarelal Symphony” challenge. The song is from the 1991 action crime drama “Hum,” which starred Amitabh Bachchan, Rajinikanth, Govinda, Kimi Katkar, and Anupam Kher.

    A duet between Vaibhav and Sonu Nigam was played during the finale.

    They performed the title song from the 2000 comedy, “Joru Ka Ghulam,” which starred Govinda, Johnny Lever, Twinkle Khanna, and Kader Khan.
