Doordarshan to telecast T20 World Cup matches, Paris Olympics and Paralympics
According to Prasar Bharati, national broadcaster Doordarshan will stream the T20 World Cup, which is being held in the USA and the West Indies, on the DD Free Dish platform on Monday.
“Doordarshan will follow up the high profile coverage of T20 World Cup with a lineup of telecasts of a number of major global international sporting events,” the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting said in a release.
In addition to the Twenty20 World Cup, Doordarshan will broadcast the forthcoming Paralympics and Olympics in Paris, India’s series against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka, and the men’s and women’s singles finals from the 2024 French Open and Wimbledon.
“This includes live/deferred live and highlights of the Paris Olympics Games 2024(July 26-August 11, Paris Paralympic Games (August 28-September 8), India vs Zimbabwe cricket series (July 6-July 1), and India vs Sri Lanka cricket series (July 27-August 7) and Women’s and Men’s finals of the French Open 2024 (June 8 & 9) and Wimbledon 2024 (July 13 & 14),” said the release.
Gaurav Dwivedi, the CEO of Prasar Bharati, made the announcement on Monday in a New Delhi media conference. DG of Doordarshan Kanchan Prasad, Chairman of Prasar Bharati Navneet Kumar Sehgal, CEO of Prasar Bharati Gaurav Dwivedi, and Secretary of Information and Broadcasting Sanjay Jaju introduced a special anthem for the T20 World Cup, “Jazba,” performed by Sukhwinder Singh, during the meeting. The renowned storyteller Neelesh Misra provided the narration for a promotional video that the Secretary also unveiled for the grand T20 tournament.
Notably, Doordarshan has agreements in place with major international sports organizations such as the NBA and PGTA to display their programming on DD Sports. The statement stated that DD Sports Channel telecasts NBA 2K League contests, a well-liked e-sports franchise.
It further stated that Prasar Bharati is in the advanced stages of negotiations with many sports organizations and agencies to include various sports tournaments and properties on its sports channel.
A number of national multisport events were created and broadcast by DD Sports in the past year. These included the Khelo India Youth Games in Tamil Nadu, the Khelo India University Games in Astalakshmi (the eight states of North East), the National Games in Goa, the first-ever Khelo India Para Games in New Delhi, and the Khelo India Youth Games in Astalakshmi and Khelo India Winter Games in Gulmarg and Leh.
In addition to being broadcast on DD Sports, the feed for these matches was distributed to the nation’s top private networks, including Star Sports, Jio Cinema, and Sony Network.
The men’s and women’s cricket matches from the Hangzhou Asian Games in China were broadcast on the World Feed by the Doordarshan team. The DD team’s global feed from ground zero was broadcast on television in several Asian nations.
The rights to broadcast the Indian cricket team’s August 2023 trip of the West Indies on linear television were held by Doordarshan across all platforms. The feed of the limited-over matches in the series was generated in regional languages such Bhojpuri, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, and Kannada in addition to English and Hindi commentary. The matches were shown on various Doordarshan Network regional channels.
